Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood said on its website that the attack "can be attributed to Mossad" and was an attempt to thwart Islamist President Mohamed Morsy.
...
According to the Brotherhood statement, the Mossad "has been seeking to abort the revolution since its inception and the proof of this is that it gave instructions to its Zionist citizens in Sinai to depart immediately a few days ago." The group added: "(It) also draws our attention to the fact that our forces in Sinai are not enough to protect it and our borders, which makes it imperative to review clauses in the signed agreement between us and the Zionist entity."
The truth of the matter is that Israel did have intelligence that something was about to happen and they dutifully shared it with the Egyptians who seemed to do absolutely nothing, either because of laziness, incompetence or because they wanted an attack to happen. Israel also publicly warned its citizens of an impending attack, urging all tourists to leave the Sinai immediately just before the attack. Once again, culture shows. With the same intelligence about a terrorist attack, one country does nothing and sees 16 of its soldiers killed, while the other makes preparations so that none of their innocent civilians are killed and is able to stop the terrorists before they hit their target (though obviously it would have been better if they were stopped at the border and not 1 mile into Israel).
