Paul Krugman Has Lost the Ability to Do Basic Math

In his latest biased Republican-bashing piece, Krugman included this nugget:

Then House leaders announced plans to hold a vote cutting spending on food stamps in half — a demand that is likely to sink the already struggling effort to agree with the Senate on a farm bill.

Oh those horrible Republicans, out to starve the poor!  Not so fast.  Republicans want to cut food stamps by $40 billion over 10 years or in other words by about $4 billion a year. According to the CBO, the Food Stamp program will cost the taxpayer about $82.5 billion in 2013, so we are talking about a 4.8% cut, a far cry from 50%.  Damn decimal places.
